Folks, I hold in my hands o要e
very hot little piece of vinyl!!! This recently formed group, Danny Santos
and the Savoys, has put out o要e of the best hillbilly/rockabilly 45's I've
heard in quite some time. The group features Brazillian born singer Danny
Santos o要 Rhythm Guitar/Vocals, Steve Merritt on lead guitar, Dickie Hanses
o要 Bass and Rick Quisol o要 drums.
Both sides of the 45 were self penned and fantastic to say the least. "Poor
Boy" is a mid paced bopper and "Too Late" is a peppy boogie. Both great
songs to dance to!!! The record was recorded using vintage equipment and it
shows. Danny Santos' vocal delivery and tone reminds me a bit of Big Sandy,
but has it's own style. Combine that with Steve Merrit's fluid guitar
playing and a solid rhythm section and you've got rock n roll!!! Keep your
ears open, these boys are sure to be going places!
